Dear Mommy,

We wanted so badly to pull an April Fool's joke on you but we couldn't think of what to do. We had already thrown all of our toys all over and taken all of the cushions off the couch, among other things that are really daily occurances. But we felt like today really deserved a special treat. After lots and lots of scheming, we came up with the perfect plan. As soon as you went upstairs for a few minutes, we sprang into action. This was going to be great!

Uh-oh! We think that dropping the glass 9x13 baking dish on the floor gave us away because that big crash, which luckily didn't break anything, tipped you off. Oh no, you hadn't been gone long enough to finish!

Although this is what you found;

Our plan was to mix up the flour, sugar and powdered sugar so that when you went to make something, everything would be mixed together. We promise that we were going to clean up the mess before you came so that you wouldn't know something was up. We shouldn't have dropped that dish and then the execution of our plan would have been perfect!

Love,

Your sons

p.s. We're very sorry about the static shock you got when you were trying to use the shop-vac to clean up. You and Daddy should know by now that vacuums and powders (flour, baking soda, etc) don't mix.

p.s.s. At least you got to clean the stove and oven really well!

Haircuts

I trimmed Zach's hair around the edges a month ago, it was his first haircut. I've never been good about saving my babies' hair from their first cut. I would probably lose it anyway. Here are some before, during and after shots.

Okay, so a little blurry, but look how cute!
No! Not my ear!
So handsome!

Now, a month later, I'm afraid he needs all of his hair trimmed, not just the edges!

Whatd'ya think?!?!

I think I may have a new addiction

I have really been enjoying food blogs. I can't say it's a bad thing because for those of you who know how much I dislike cooking, it's inspiring me to try new things and to *try* to enjoy the old. I do, however, love to bake and I'm finding lots of evil recipes. Check out some of the links on my sidebar.

This was from Phemomenom, the Coconut Loaf Cake with Thick Lime Glaze. I baked it in a small pan and baked the rest in a silicone muffin mold. I needed some for dinner the next day when we were having people over but didn't want to wait until then to try it. So I divided it up. I liked the muffins better because I over-baked the cake just a little and so it was a little drier. But they were so good! My glaze wasn't as thick as hers either, so I'll have to experiment next time. I think I would double the glaze too, because it was so good.

Yummers!

I love strawberries!

I'm so excited that strawberries are starting to be affordable. I love them but I'm too cheap to buy them when they're expensive.

I've been reading a lot of food blogs and have tried a lot of new things. I know this idea probably isn't original at all, but I had fun and it was yummy.

Instead of dipping strawberries in chocolate, I used a huller to scoop out the inside, melted some chocolate chips, and had a chocolate filled strawberry.

I think I would use a different chocolate next time and I don't know if the juice inside would allow it to set up very well. Of course I didn't wait for it to set up, I just started eating! The chocolate did squeeze out of the top when I tried to bite it so it would probably be better if it were set.

If anyone has done this before or has ideas on how to make it better, let me know 'cuz I love strawberries and I LOVE chocolate!

Aaah, the pants.

I forgot that I was going to post this! These pants had a small hole in the knee but when Jaiden came inside from playing, it was a big slit and he had another in the other knee. I hadn't noticed but he showed me and said we needed to fix it. The next thing I knew, this is what they looked like: (okay, I know I forgot that I can't record video in portrait mode and then just "rotate it" so sorry for the neck strain!)

Oh well! And he ripped the backside of some new ones when getting out of the van the other day. Oh well! :)

Painting

One of Jaiden's new favorite activities is to paint. I love it! He is really good and has a lot of fun. Austin likes to join in too and they both have fun. Here they are yesterday morning. I have learned from experience that it's just better to not have any clothes on them while they paint!

By the light (not the dark, but the light) of the Silvery Moon

Last night was another of my late nights and when I went down to finish loading the dishwasher at 2:00 am, I looked outside at the deck and just had to get a picture. The full moon and the fresh snow made a beautiful combination.

So when Carlos got home at 2:30 am, he found me out on the deck in my pj's, a coat and boots, my camera and tripod.

This is the mountain behind our house.

This is looking to the west, the tree was illuminated by the neighbor's porch lights.

What's funny is that as I was setting up, my neighbor came outside to get something out of his car. I guess I'm not the only night owl around here.

More Jaidenisms

Jaiden: Mariah, I see lots and lots of colors. I go to sleep. I wake up. And I see colors.
Mariah: Jaiden, there are colors everywhere.

------------------------------------------

Me: Jaiden, I think you have a tummy ache.
Jaiden: Tummy egg? I no tummy-egg, I Jaiden. No egg!

I Love to See the Temple

We had some extra time before extended family home evening on Sunday night so we stopped at the Mt Timpanogos Temple and walked around with the boys a little bit.  It was hard to get them to walk reverently and not run all over!  It was nice because we haven't done that before.  When we were driving up to it, Jaiden said "Mommy, look!  A TEMPLE!"
