A Weekend Family Getaway

We left on Thursday evening and stayed with Ryan and Jenna in Logan.  I don’t know why I didn’t get any pictures, I’m a dork.  But Ava is such a cutie and we are all in love with her curly blonde hair!  Sorry we kept her up so late!  We also drove by the Brigham City Temple on the way up.  It was smaller than I expected, but is very beautiful.

Saturday morning we headed up to Bear Lake, figuring it would be too cold to swim but wanted to stop anyway.  The drive up Logan Canyon was pretty and the river was really full!

We stopped at the overlook and somebody had put a snowball on the fence post.  It was about 48 degrees up there at the top, but it wasn’t melting!

The guy at the gas station said that the water temp was about 51 degrees, and we figured we’d let the kids just get their feet wet and they wouldn’t want to get it.  We had to drive around to the Idaho side and go in the State Park there because it was the only place that had any beach….Thanks Lisa for the tip!

Well, we got out and tested the water…thanks to the very gradual slope and shallow waters, close to shore was actually warm, so the boys got in their swimming suits and had a blast.

For those unfamiliar with Bear Lake, it is a great place to take kids because you can walk out a really long ways and you don’t have to worry about it dropping off suddenly.  Here’s a picture of a guy (circled in red) who walked out to about mid-chest.  You can see how far he is from the shore!

After the lake, we stopped at the tabernacle in Paris, Idaho for a picture. I had never noticed how the two front corners are different!

We then ate at the Artic Circle in Montpelier, Idaho and then headed up to Driggs.  Zach fell asleep while eating his ice cream cone…I tried to take it from him (it was just the last little bit of the cone) and he woke up and kept trying to eat it while mostly asleep.  It was pretty funny.

We drove through beautiful country, and everything being so green just made it even prettier!  This was in Swan Valley, before going over the pass into the Victor/Driggs area.

We got to David and Kelly’s and the boys had a blast playing with their dog, Milly.  David didn’t get home until they were asleep (and that didn’t happen until 11:00!) but we had a great time visiting with Kelly and playing with the dog!

They have a front porch and an awesome wrap-around, covered back porch.

They have a few neighbors but a lot of open space and pretty views.  We loved their house, it was perfect for them!

I know my travel logs are always long and full of pictures, but I can’t help it.  I get the camera in my hand and can’t stop!  I love to capture all the moments of our trips and fun things we do.  So, I think I’ll stop here and add another post about the rest of the trip.

Growing, Growing!

We sadly lost a lot of the pictures from the hospital and when Jaiden was brand new when we were doing some transferring of files.  But I do have a few.  These are mostly from his first few weeks…

Jaiden (2)Jaiden (38)Jaiden (56)Jaiden (85)Jaiden (86)Jaiden (19)

Now, he’s six!  His birthday was on Friday and he was really excited to be six.  Last year, he wanted a Star Wars cake, and the one I did was not really a Star Wars cake, so he has been asking for a “Real” one this year.  He said he just wanted everything that had to do with Star Wars on it, but I (of course) didn’t really start looking at ideas in time to go out and get everything I might need.  So, the night before, we decided to to an R2-D2 cake.  Carlos had the day off, so he was able to help me with some of it and help hold down the fort while I worked on it.  We wanted to use fondant, but the Wilton stuff tastes horrible and the local cake store only had orange.  I haven’t made marshmallow fondant before and didn’t want to try for the first time that day.  So, it’s just with buttercream icing, but I think it still worked okay.  I finally finished just before we had his cake and ice cream, so it was really sad to cut into it!

Afterwards, I asked him if he liked it. He said yes, but asked why I didn’t just put lots of Star Wars things on it! Oh well!

More cousin photos!

We tried to get a family picture.  This was the 9th try and about the best one!

This was the inside of the cake.  I used three colors of cake batter and the swirled in a cool way while baking!

He got some clothes which he badly needed because he’s the oldest and has outgrown everything!  He also got a fun McQueen car, a wallet, some Play-Doh and a Star Wars Lego set.  I think it was a fun day for him!  We love you Jaiden!

Once again, I’m having a hard time with the video, surprise, surprise!  I’ll get it up when I can get it fixed!

I always have trouble loading videos on here and this is the only way it works for me! Again, ignore the singing! :o

Zach’s Birthday

I still can’t believe that Zachy is three (although it’s not too hard, based on the frequency of tantrums…!)

He is getting to be SO strong and is learning a lot of new things.  I’ll have to dedicate an entire post to that.  But, quickly, here are some pictures from his birthday.

This is what I started working on when I got up at 4:15 that morning.  I had really wanted to make a banner that we could use for everyone’s birthday, and since I was awake and hadn’t had a chance, I started it then.  I think it turned out cute.  It says “Feliz Dia”, or Happy Day, in Spanish and the last circle is blank where I can write in the age or whatever with a dry erase marker.

This was my attempt at a circus tent and clowns.  He seemed to like it and wasn’t terrified like he was last year.

He really liked his lion “pillow pet” (not really, but we got it because he really likes to growl like a lion.  This one even growls and makes noise.  He loved it.  This photo is blurry, but it shows him really growling.  He was also really excited about his card that came from Grandma and Grandpa.

IMG_4300IMG_4323

Later, we had cake and ice cream.  I’m having trouble posting the video, but when I do, just ignore the singing at the beginning!  It’s kind of long, but is pretty funny!  We love the different faces that Zach makes, he’s always making us laugh and it makes it hard to discipline him when he starts making faces when he knows he’s in trouble!

IMG_4345

Cousins!  Of course, there isn’t one where they’re all looking!

IMG_4352IMG_4353IMG_4354

I’ll try and post the video later.  I also need to post Jaiden’s birthday, which was yesterday!  He’s six now!  Crazy!
